Read like crazy. Make sure that you understand the needs of the exotic animal.
You can't get one just because it's cute or adorable. You need to know how to properly feed, house and love it. Some do well in families. Others do well in single people homes. You need to find out everything you can about the animal.
Make sure that you can afford the vet bills. Vet bills for exotic animals are typically higher then say for cats or dogs. Also, is there even a vet around that can help you with vaccinations, diet needs and other medications?
Regardless of how the animal was put into adoption it is wonderful that you are wanting to give it a loving and beautiful home. You are under a huge obligation. Make sure to enter into it with all the knowledge that you can. You and your new friend will be happier.
